Well before sharing our family dish i wanna say like many other vegetables taro root was a mortal enemies of mine.Since childhood my mother was stewed it.But after grown up and to understand the flavors of spices i just love to eat taro roots.Specially when it welly combine with  spices of our odisha.

 

INGREDIENTS

  • 10 to 12 taro roots(arbi)
  • ½ cup green peas
  • 1 boiled potato
  • 1 chopped onions
  • 1 green chili
  • 1 tsp curd
  • 1 bay leaf
  • pinch of sugar
  • salt
  • oil
  • water

Making paste 1

  • 1 onions
  • 10 to 12 garlic pods
  • 1 small ginger
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 bay leaf

Make a fine paste of the above ingredients.

Making paste 2

  • 2 tsp melon seeds
  • Warm milk

Make a fine paste of melon seeds with warm milk

HOW TO PREPARE THE DISH

STEP 1

  • Thoroughly wash the taro roots and peel it’s skin
  • Cut them into two pieces and boil them half cooked.
  • Remove them and let it cool
  • In a pan grease oil and fry the taro root pieces until brown in colour. Keep them aside

STEP 2

  • Now wash the potato and boil them in water.
  • Peel off the skin and cut them into two pieces.
  • In the same pan fry the potato until brown in colour.

STEP 3

  • In a pan heat 2 tsp oil,add sugar,bay leaf when the sugar turns brown in colour add onions,green chili.Saute it,add prepared paste.Fry until nice aroma come.
  • Add peas ,curd and saute it.
  • Now add arbi ,potatoes ,1 tsp of melon paste.and mix it well .
  • Add 1 cup water .Cook on high flame until the gravy starts to boil,then cook on shimmer for 5 minutes.
  • It tastes good with gravy so try to keep the gravy thin instead of thick
  • Now serve it with steamed rice or hot
