It is a classical middle eastern dessert .Originated from Egypt.This sweet delicacy is made out of semolina,curd.and soak in sugar syrup makes unique from other cakes..people in middle eastern usually use it as evening snacks with coffee and tea.
My kid love it.Well she is the taster of my all sweet desserts and this one she likes the
most.I hope although it’s my newly baked hope you would like and bake it.
STEP BY STEP PREPARATION WITH PHOTO
In large bowl add milk,butter sugar and whisk them well.
Add semolina, almond powder,pinch of salt,baking powder.Mix them well and keep aside for 10 to 15 minutes
Due to lock-down i only use the ingredients which are available at home easily.Instead of almond powder you can use desiccated coconut also.If you dont available desiccated coconut then,use freshly scrapped coconut and shallow fry them over medium flame for 5 minutes.cool it and use .
.For almond powder take 20 to 30 almonds and shallow fry them..Cool and blend to smooth powder.You can strain to fine powder or else use with out straining it.
Preheat oven to 180 degree C for 3 minutes. Grease a cake mould with butter and pour batter into the dish. Level it with a spatula.
Gently cut the surface of the batter using knife into desired shape.slowly pressed almonds on each pieces.
Keep the mould in oven and bake at 180 degree C for 30 to 35 mins or till the top of the cake turns golden brown.Check using knife whether the cake is ready or not.Once done off the oven and let it cool for 15 minutes inside the oven.
Meanwhile, in a pan add sugar ,water and slice of lemon to prepare sugar syrup. Keep it in medium flame and stir well till sugar is completely dissolved. After dissolve cook for few seconds or Off the gas before one string consistency.
In this stage you can add orange juice ,rose water to the sugar syrup.Some also use honey into the syrup.You can choose your own flavor also.
Take the cake out and pour the Luke warm syrup over the cake.Let it soak more than 2 hours.But soaking it overnight will give better result.
Cut into shapes and serve them with tea/coffee as evening snacks.or anytime small hunger.You can store it in a airtight container for 6 to 7 days.
