This is our homely recipe.Turnip is a root vegetable.Most of people don’t know how to cook it.Its crunchy and less starchy ..mostly available in winter.We can eat it without cooking also.In my family it cooks once when the season of turnip comes.I hope you will love to cook the dish.

  INGREDIENTS

  • 150 gm shrimps
  • ¼ Th cup chopped turnip
  • 7 to 8 urad badi(Black gram nuggets)
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 10 pods garlic
  • 4 to 5 green chili silted
  • 2 big tomatoes
  • Mustard seeds
  • Fennel seeds
  • Fenugreek seeds
  • Mustard oil

 Making paste

Making fine paste of the below ingredients.

  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 15 pods garlic
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric

HOW TO PREPARE THE DISH

STEP 1

Clean nicely the shrimps and marinate adding salt,1/tsp turmeric. Keep aside for 15 minutes.

STEP 2

In a pan heat 1 tbsp oil, shallow fry the shrimps. Remove them and keep in a plate.

STEP 3 

In the same pan fry badis until brown in colour. Keep the badis in a plate.

STEP 4

Chopped turnip into small pieces.Use only the tender part of turnip, leave the root side.so that its take less time to cook

STEP 5

Now add 1 tbsp oil in the pan, add mustard seeds,1/4th tsp each( fennel seeds, fenugreek) when they start to crackle add green chilies, onion, garlic pods. saute them.

STEP 6

Add tomato slices and fry until tomatoes get soft. Now add mustard paste,saute it.

STEP 7

Add chopped turnips fry them well.Add 3 cups water,salt.cook on high flame until the gravy start to boil.

STEP 8

Add vadis and shrimps. medium the flame.cook until the gravy get nice consistency and turnips are cooked well.
