This is another dish which frequently serve in most of the temple of odisha. The sourness of tomatoes when mix with black peas and jaggery it tastes  luscious  

  INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup pumpkin cubes( kakharu)
  • 1/c cup kala chana(black chickpeas)
  • 500 gms tomato chopped
  • 50 gms tamarind(optional)
  • ½ cup jaggery(can use sugar instead)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder(optional)
  • Salt
  • oil

Seasoning

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp each(fennel seeds, fenugreek seeds)
  • 1 dried red chili
  • 1 tsp crushed ginger-cloves(1 small piece ginger,2 cloves)

HOW TO PREPARE THE DISH

STEP 1

  • wash thoroughly the pumpkin and cut into medium shapes.
  • Chopped tomatoes.

STEP 2

  • In a pan heat 2 tsp oil,seasoning with mustard seeds,fennel,fenugreek seeds,hing.When they start to splutter add dried chili,1/2 tsp ginger-clove paste.
  • Add turmeric.fry them

STEP 3

  • Add tomatoes,salt,kala chana. Let them cook on medium flame until tomatoes are get mushy.

STEP 4

  • Add pumpkin,jaggery. stir it.
  • Add 1 cup of water.Shimmer the gas and allow to cook until pumpkin and chana cooked nicely.

STEP 5

  • Now add rest of ginger-cloves paste.Off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.serve hot with steamed rice.

Tips

You can boiled chana instead cook directly in the dish..
