If you are looking for some dishes made out of mango and a big fan of mango then you must try this pitha/pan cake which is not only looking delicious but also taste amazing.

A juicy and ripe mango is always good for preparing pitha or pancake.Although i have not used regular flour which supposed to use in traditional pan cake.I have some stuffs of moong dal in my freeze which was not enough for making anything.

If summer comes then every one in their mood to prepare dish from mango itself,which i supposed to do.You need to soak moong dal at least 2 to 3 hours.Rinse and blend it.

I used two mango which gave 1 cup of thick puree after blending them.

Add some rice flours which will allow the batter to a nice texture and avoid sticking to the pan while preparing pitha. Rice flour plays an important role for pitha in odia cuisine.

Add the amount of sugar you would like to.Pinch of salt will balance the taste ,combine all the ingredients nicely and sit it for 15 minutes.

Grease a non stick pan/iron skillet and pour one ladle full of the batter when it is hot.Cover  it and cook on lower flame around 1 minute.


Flip it and cook for some second.Do the same for rest of the batter.

Serve it warm as  dessert or snack and enjoy the summer.

If you would like to make it more fascinating then make a layer of pithas/pan cakes and drizzle honey over it.

Really it makes the pitha more delicious.

things we need to prepare

  • 1/2 cup yellow moong dal
  • 1 cup thick mango puree
  • 2 tbsp rice flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar(increase according to taste)
  • dash of salt
  • ghee/oil
  • water
  • honey


Soak yellow moong dal for 2 to 3 hours.Rinse and discard all its water.Blend it with little water to form a smooth paste.

Peel off ,pitted  and cut  mangoes into small pieces.Blend it to a fine puree.

Now combine rice flour,puree,moong dal along ,sugar with cardamom powder and some salt.

The batter should be slightly thick.For consistency you can add little more rice flour and water into it.Sit the batter for 15 minutes

Grease a non stick pan/iron skillet and pour one ladle full of batter when its hot.

cook on lower flame and cover it around one minute.Flip it and warm for some seconds.

Its ready now serve it with drizzling some honey or as it is.
