Pita bread is a soft fluffy bread most popular  middle eastern cuisine, is made with flour, water, and salt.Its little similar to out Indian flat bread kulcha or Nan.Pita bread serves with dip like hummus,. or used as wrap with falafel or tahini sauce.


THINGS WE NEED TO PREPARE.

  • 2  cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup wheat flour
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tsp active yeast
  • salt

PREPARATION STEP BY STEP WITH PHOTOS

STEP 1

  • In a bowl place yeast,along with half cup of warm water and 1/2 cup of all purpose flour.

STEP 2

  • Whisk together and stand for 10 to 15 min to bubble the mixture.Now pour olive oil,salt combine all together.
  • Add rest 1 cup of all purpose flour, wheat flour along with slowly add little water and knead the dough.If the dough is sticky can add more flour.We keep rest of flour for dusting.

STEP 3

  • Spread some oil over the dough.You can either cover and with out cover sit the dough out side for more than 1 hour to  rise double the size.It will take more than 1 hour.Once it risen you can store it in refrigerator and use next day.

STEP 4

  •  Once the dough has doubled, punch it down to release air  Continue to knead for about 5 minutes. and divide into 8 small pieces of small balls.Cover balls with cloth for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Now roll them out into small flat breads.  Repeat with remaining dough balls.

STEP 5

  • Heat an iron skillet  over medium flame. Lay pita bread into hot skillet and cook until bread begins to puff up and bottom has brown spots about 3 minutes.Use a cotton cloth or spatula to pat the bread and help to puff up.

  • Flip, cook for some more minutes.. Pita bread will begin to puff up and fill with hot air.

  • Place them on a plate .

STEP 8

  •   when cool enough to handle, break breads in half and open the pocket inside for stuffing or break into small pieces to serve with hummus.
