Ambila the name is enough to tempting anybody.The perfect summer time dish.The aroma of the dish always boost the appetite of anyone.A typical authentic odia dish.

INGREDIENTS

  • Tamarind extract(one lemon size ball tamarind,soak in 1 cup of water for half an hour.

rub the tamarind and strain it.)

  •  2 tbs jaggery
  • 1 dried red chili
  • ½ tsp each(mustard seeds, fennel seeds, fenugreek seeds)
  • 10 cloves garlic
  • 2 medium onions(chopped)
  • Curry leaves
  • 3 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 dried red chili
  • Salt

HOW TO PREPARE THE RECIPE

NOTE

The dish is filled with lots of flavors of sourness,sweetness.. so you can increase the amount of  ingredients according to your taste.

STEP 1

Clean the fishes and marinate by adding 1/2 tsp each(salt,turmeric).keep aside for 10 minutes.

STEP 2  

In a pan heat 1 tbsp of oil and shallow fry fishes till brown each side.drain them in a plate.

STEP 3

Another pan, heat 2 tsp oil season with mustard seeds, fennel seeds, fenugreek seeds . when they start to splutter add crushed garlic, onion, curry leaves. Fry till the onion is translucent.

Add turmeric, chili powder, tamarind extract and add 2 cups of water. let the water boil.

STEP 4

Now add jaggery cook on medium flame for one minute.Add fried fishes and salt.

Cook it for 10 minutes until the gravy starts to thick.

Off the gas and serve this delicious mouth watering dish with steamed  rice..
