This spicy curry made out of black eyed peas and soy chunks with loaded spices.You can prepare it as your one of the main dish for any weekend meals..


THINGS WE NEED TO PREPARE..

  • 1 cup dried black eyed peas (soaked in water  about 2 to 3 hours)
  • 1 cup soy nuggets (soaked in boiled water for 15 minutes / until  soft)
  • 1 big onion
  • 15  cloves garlic, one small  ginger
  •  3  cloves
  • 1 small tomato
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  •  1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 small cinnamon piece
  • 1 tsp garam  masala
  • Salt

INSTRUCTIONS..

Step 1: Steam soaked peas and salt in 1 cup of water in a  pressure cooker for 1 or 2 whistles.over medium flame.Drain the excess water.

Step 2: squeeze boiled nuggets and cut into half pieces

Step 3: Heat 3 tsp of oil in a wok and fry soy and peas separately for 1 minutes/turns brown.keep them in a plate.

Step 4: Now in the same wok heat 2 tsp of oil and add  sugar, cinnamon, turmeric, chili powder on lower flame.when the colour turns brown add chopped tomatoes. saute until tomatoes get soft.

Step 5: Add prepared paste ,keep frying until the mixture left the side of the wok.

Step 6: Add soy nuggets,peas and saute for 5 to 7 minutes.

Step 7:  Add coriander powder and garam masala. and  1 and ½ cup of water .Cook on high flame ,once the gravy start to boil medium the flame and cook for 10 minutes.

Step 8: when the gravy bring to desire consistency or thick ,off the gas and serve hot with rice or roti


STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS WITH PHOTOS..

  • Rinse and soak black eyed peas around 5 to 6 hours in enough water.Sometimes it takes around 2 hours to swallow the black eyed peas.. Discard it’s water
  • .In a steam pot add 1 cup of water along with soaked peas,salt and cook for one whistle over high flame or cook until peas get soft.Don’t over cook the peas.
  • Separate both the water and peas..
  • In another bowl add nuggets into a hot water.Rest it for 15 minutes.Then squeeze the soy nuggets.Rinse thoroughly in cold water for two to thrice. Squeeze nuggets and cut into half pieces.
  • Heat 3 tsp of oil in wok and fry soy and peas separately for 1 minutes/turns brown.keep them in a plate.
  • In the same pan heat 2 tsp of oil and add  sugar, cinnamon, turmeric, chili powder on lower flame.when the colour turns brown add chopped tomatoes. saute until tomatoes get soft.
  • Add prepared paste ,keep frying until the mixture left the side of the wok.
  • Add fried soy nuggets,black peas and saute for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Add coriander powder and garam masala. saute it.
  • Add 1 and ½ cup of water into it. Cook on high flame ,once the gravy start to boil ,medium the flame and cook for 10 minutes.
  • When the gravy bring to desire consistency or thick ,off the gas.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot with rice/ roti.
