A simple dish loaded with spices twist your taste bud will be one of your meatless appetiser or Sunday brunch with family. If you are looking for a healthy home made spicy wrap then you can only need to wrap these spicy peas in any flat bread can be enjoyed as wholesome.
literally when i have lazy to go for kitchen frequently, i just prepare the dish and my whole day i just wrap it with roti along with salads or any wafer to make it more fun. I would say try it and enjoy it this scrumptious recipe when you have less time to crave your hunger.
Whole dried peas are one of the old peas belong to the family of lentils or legume. Like other peas its also very nutritious package of fiber and protein. Like meat it has excellent source of protein which is helpful for vegetarians and growing children. The dish it self a wholesome prevents feel you full to prevent hunger. An ancient peas is exceptionally healthy and use widely in many cuisine of India.
The one thing take time about dried peas is its soaking time. It takes 12 hours to soak. If you are hurry then you can use hot water to soak the peas at least 2 hours. But the taste of the peas enhance in soaking overnight.
Rinse and soak the peas in 2 cups of water over night .Boil them in a pressure cooker .Instead of pressure cooker you can use a pot to boil but takes long time to cook. Boiling in pot peas are more aromatic than cook in pressure cooker. So if have enough time you can boil them in pot to make the dish more delicious.
When they cooked strain it and keep the liquid a side.
Heat oil and start adding all the ingredients one by one. Add onions and tomatoes until tomatoes are get mushy.
Add blended paste and fry it. You should keep in mind while roasting the ground paste there should not be raw smell, this is the main step of the recipe.
Add boiled peas and rest of the spices. Stir it nicely and sprinkle boiled peas water over the dish on medium flame. A nice aroma will come out and cover the peas. Stir it frequently so that the boiled peas will be completely cooked and coated with spices. sprinkle chopped coriander at the end and serve hot.

things we need to prepare
dried yellow peas
1 large onion -thin sliced
1 tbsp. ground paste
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp dried mango powder
1/2 tsp red chili powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1 tsp chopped green chilies
1 large tomato -seeded/thin sliced
1 hand full chopped coriander leaves
for ground paste
1 medium onion
6 to7 garlic pods
small ginger piece
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
Put all the ingredients in a small jar and bend to fine paste.
Rinse and soak dried peas in enough water over night. Then discard the water. Pour 1 cup of water in a pressure cooker along with soaked peas and salt. Cook over high flame around 2 to 3 whistles. Then manually cool the pressure cooker under tap. We should not over cooked the peas. Strain the peas in bowl and store the peas water.
In a pan heat oil. Add sliced onions ,green chilies and tomatoes. When tomatoes are get soft add red chili powder, turmeric and sauté it.
Add ground paste and fry until aromatic or raw smell goes off .It will take around 5 minutes over medium flame.
Add boiled peas and combine with the roasted masala. Add rest of the spices coriander powder, mango powder and garam masala. Fry them well and add little salt and sprinkle 2 to 3 handfuls of boiled peas water over the peas.
Cook on medium flame until peas are get soft and coated with masala. Sprinkle chopped coriander leaves at the end and off the gas.
Place the spicy peas in roti or paratha and wrap it to enjoy a wholesome meatless meal or you can serve it with steamed rice too.
