Jack fruits ..hmm..to be honest, unlike others I am a big fan of jack-fruits since my childhood. My mother used to cook different recipes of jack-fruits. When summer comes people of my family waiting for ripe jack-fruits whose smells just irresistible for me. But although my husband is vegetarian and now I am cooking for him jack-fruit.

This is my first jack-fruit recipe and I can say this jack-fruit made meat balls really eye catchy and taste goods. Now I can say it’s true that jack-fruit is the substitute of meat for all vegetarians and meat lovers too.

Here I am sharing vegan meat ball made of jack-fruit.. Serve this to your guests with steamed rice / chapati ..

INGREDIENTS

  • 250G raw tender jack-fruit
  • 250G chana dal (Bengal grams)
  • 1 chopped onions
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • ½ tsp. sugar
  • 2 green chilies
  • ½ tsp. dried Kasoori methi
  • Salt
  • Water
  • mustard oil

Preparing masala

  • · 2 onions
  • · 1 head garlic (15 to 16 cloves)
  • · Small ginger pieces
  • · 6 to 7 cloves
  • · 2 tomatoes

Blend the above ingredients  tomatoes and to make a fine smooth paste.

Making meat balls

  • · 1 tsp. ginger-garlic paste
  • · 1 tsp Garam masala
  • · 1 tbsp. rice flour
  • · 1 tbsp. corn flour
  • · 1 tsp. gram flour
  • · Salt
  • · Water

 LETS PREPARE STEP BY STEP

  • Wash the jack fruit thoroughly and wear hand gloves, apply generous amount of oil onto your knife chop the outer skin of raw jack fruit until you get a smooth surface.
  • Spread a newspaper on a table, Chop jack fruit in the middle into halves / thirds
  • Now in a pressure cooker steam the jack fruit pieces adding 1 cup of water. Cook on high flame till 3 to 4 whistle.
  • Release the gas under running water and cool it.
  • Now mash or blend the jack fruit using a chutney jar.
  • In a large bowl add jack fruit mixture, above ingredients and little water. Mix them well.
  • Keep it a side for half an hour or in refrigerator
  • Now make small balls .
  • Heat 1 cup of oil in a wok and and fry the balls until light brown. Keep them in a absorbent paper.

 prepare the meat ball curry

  • Soak Chana dal for 5 to 6 hours. Steam the Chana dal in 2 cups of water till 4 to 5 whistles or get soft.
  • In a pan heat 2 tsp. oil, add sugar, cinnamon sticks when it turns brown add chopped onions.
  • Let the onions light brown, add prepared masala paste and roast the masala until the raw smell goes off. Add Garam masala and saute it.
  • Add boiled dal,stir it. Add 2 ½ cup of water and salt.
  • When the gravy starts to boil add fried balls. Now cook the curry for 10 minutes on lower flame.
  • Sprinkle some dried Kasoori methi ,slit green chilies and off the gas
  • Serve with steamed rice or roti.
